Moving can be an exciting new start, but it can also be very stressful! Downsizing or changes in life such as marriage or divorce may push you to look at self storage options. This is where using self storage temporarily comes into play.
There are many reasons why people move out of their current home and into a new one. Regardless of the reason, it is likely that you may not have anywhere to store your belongings in the interim. Self storage is a great option, especially during the moving process, to give you that added space and reduce your stress levels. You can secure a storage unit on the spot, whether you stop in the rental office of any of our locations, or if you choose to rent online from our website. If you know you will be moving and living somewhere temporarily until your new home is ready, it’s best to rent your self storage unit at least a month or two in advance of the move. That gives you time to go through your items and move as much as you can into your storage unit now. Then, once you have your new home and you are ready to move in, you can get your items from storage and you are all set. Sometimes you don’t have much notice. Even in those situations, you can rent a storage unit very quickly and move in the same day in most cases. The great thing about using self storage is that it’s on a monthly basis, with no long-term commitments. You only have to use it as long as you want or need.
You may end up living in a place where all your possessions no longer fit; especially if you downsized from a four bedroom, two story home to a two bedroom apartment or even a retirement community. In this case, self storage allows you to decide what to keep and what to let go without the stress of being in a hurry. You may have dreams of cleaning out and de-cluttering, but that is often overwhelming if you try to tackle your whole life at once. By renting a storage unit, you can clean out all the stuff you need to go through and move it into storage. Then, as you have time or maybe one day every week or two, you can visit your storage unit and go through it one box at a time. If you decide you like having a storage unit for that extra stuff, you can even keep it six months, a year or longer – it is completely up to you how long you want to keep it.
Maybe you are staging your home for sale. Removing extra items will give prospective buyers the ability to picture their own family living there without clutter or personal items all over. Self storage offers an affordable way to make extra space in your home without permanently getting rid of anything! By renting a self storage unit, you have the ability to go through and organize everything now, making your move easier and less stressful once your home sells. For example: You can minimize by going down to just a sofa, coffee table and one end table in the living room and moving all the dvd shelves, book cases, photos and pictures on the wall and so on into your storage unit. This makes the room look much larger and more welcoming to buyers.
If you are diving into a home renovation, you will want to protect your furniture from damage. Instead of crowding your basement, garage or other area of your home, use a self storage unit to house your belongings instead. You can empty an entire room (or more) into your storage unit to get everything out of the way. This allows you to tear out walls and carpet, repaint, install new floors, hang new lights and so on with ease. There is no worry of damaging anything if nothing is there to damage. You may even decide that some of your items no longer match or fit into the newly renovated area. If this is the case, you can even buy the new furniture, lamps and art and keep it inside your storage unit until the renovations are completed.
Situations such as divorce or a couple splitting up is unfortunate but not uncommon. When a couple separates, each person may want to hold on to furniture or other valuables but do not have the extra space at the moment. They may even move in with other family members who don’t have the space to house all the extra items. Separations are very stressful and a lot of things take place that are out of your control. Self storage units are a great solution for storing any items suddenly at affordable rates, and helping you gain some of that control back into your life. You can keep your storage unit as long as you need until you find a new home or apartment.
