See the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburg Steelers Play

If you wonder why Pittsburgh is called the City of Champions, it’s almost all due to the Pirates and Steelers. These MLB and NFL superstar teams, respectively, created a winning tradition in the city unlike any other. The Pittsburgh Pirates are the oldest professional team in the town and have won the World Series five times. The Pittsburgh Steelers are the only NFL team to win back-to-back Super Bowls – twice. Even the Pittsburgh Penguins, the city’s professional hockey team, have won the Stanley Cup four times. By the way, the Pirates play at PNC Park while the Steelers play at Heinz Field. That, in a nutshell, is why Pittsburgh is considered one of the country’s top sports cities.

Carnegie Museum of Natural History

A celebrated captain of industry, Andrew Carnegie championed the expansion of the American steel industry. Mr. Carnegie is also considered one of the most influential philanthropists in American history. He donated millions of dollars towards public libraries, museums, and education projects. Four museums in Pittsburgh carry his name, including the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. While we highly recommend visiting all of them, this one is considered the best. There are countless curiosities to see, including dinosaur bones and mysterious mummies. For budding archaeologists, the museum also has an unrivaled mineral collection. It’s one of the most interesting things to do in Pittsburgh, PA.

Feast at Pittsburgh’s Fantastic Eateries

Are you a fan of fantastic food in all its many delicious forms? If yes, Pittsburgh is going to knock your socks off! Apartment Guide recently ranked our city as the 3rd-best country for foodies. One reason might be that we have more restaurants per capita than any other city in the United States. Another is that the city’s German, Polish, and Eastern European influences run deep. You can find restaurants serving up spectacular cabbage rolls, pierogies, and kielbasa on practically every Pittsburgh street. Below are a few of the standout restaurants in the city, but keep in mind there are many more.

  • Penn Brewery– The city’s iconic brewhouse is also the oldest, largest, and, arguable, best in the city.
  • Jean-Marc Chatellier’s French Bakery– Best Macaroon in Pittsburgh? Best Baked Goods? Best Bakery? Yes, this place is all of those and a prime reason why Pittsburgh is a famous foodie town.
  • 4121 Main– Located in a tiny storefront from the 1920s, there’s a little of everything to be enjoyed here. Plus some of the finest coffee in the city.
  • Primanti Brothers– If you’ve ever enjoyed french fries on your sandwich, you can thank the Primanti brothers. (They started the craze.)
  • Wigle Whiskey Distillery– Made-from-scratch whiskey in the heart of Steel City. Wigle Whiskey also has the distinction of being the most awarded craft whiskey distillery in the country. Most impressive indeed.

Keep in mind that, with over 400 fantastic restaurants, our list above is incredibly short but there are so many more eateries in the Iron City.
