This year, Leg Up Farm held their annual Fall Fest on Saturday, October 17th from 9am-2pm. Moove In was thrilled to be a sponsor and host a table at the event for the second year in a row. Leg Up Farm uses this event to raise vital funds for the numerous programs they offer for children with special needs. We truly believe in their mission and value our partnership with them over the last two years.
The day was rather brisk and the wind picked up in the afternoon, but that didn’t stop the crowds from coming out and having a great time. Leg Up Farm has estimated that nearly 5,000 people attended the event this year, well above what they were expecting. What a great “problem” to have!
There were plenty of kids’ activities, including a Halloween trick or treat trail with kids in full costume, pumpkin decorating, story time in the library and more all hosted by Leg Up Farm. Many vendors also took place in kids’ activities. There were giant legos for the kids to play with and several local mascots were present to keep everyone in a great mood, plus we had coloring pages at our table as well as our beloved cow mascot for photos! We handed out goodie bags complete with a fun “I Love Heifers” or “I Love Cows” pin, a Moove In Self Storage pen, cow tails and Pretzel Crisps® snacks. They were such a hit, that we ran out of bags shortly after lunch!
But it wasn’t all for the kiddos, the “big kids” had plenty to choose from also. There were over 60 vendors where you could buy just about anything such as hand-made jewelry, candles, hand-sewn purses and bags, pottery and seasonal decorations, just to name a few. There were many food trucks where you could enjoy of variety of tastes such as pizza, french fries, hot apple cider, gourmet grilled cheese, Italian ice and so much more. Plus, you could take a facility tour and learn about all the great things Leg Up Farm does every day for kids in need, bid in the silent auction and watch equine demonstrations. Because of the great success of the event, plans are already taking shape for better parking and the use of shuttles for next year, as well as adding more vendors and food trucks!
To help raise funds for Leg Up Farm this year, we placed collection boxes in all of our York and Lancaster offices where you could make a donation and be entered into our prize raffle. Two dollars got you one chance to win and five dollars got you three chances to win! We want to thank everyone who entered our raffle drawing and supported Leg Up Farm.
The Grand Prize Winner, Abby Kinley of York, walked away with an Apple® iPad Mini 2 and a Moove In Self Storage Fleece Jacket valued at over $345.00! She was so happy she won, and was nothing but smiles when she posed with her new iPad while wearing her new Moove In Fleece Jacket! She couldn’t wait to get home and start using her iPad right away.
The Runner-Up Winner, Richard Maiman from Manchester, took home a La Famiglia DelGrosso’s gift basket that was full of specialty pasta sauces, boxes of pasta, metal colander, recipe cards and more, along with several gift cards and coupons to our local business partners valued at over $205.00! He was looking forward to enjoying all the great Italian foods and gift cards.
All funds we collected through our raffle directly benefited Leg Up Farm and their mission. With the donations we received at our stores and at the event, we were able to provide 2.5 therapy sessions for kids at Leg Up Farm! How cool is that? Plus, we donated an Apple® iPad Mini 2 to Leg Up Farm as well, which they plan to use in their speech therapy program with the children! Everyone at Moove In was so very happy we could help support them again this year.
We cannot wait until next fall to join Leg Up Farm once again at this great event. Who knows, maybe the attendance will more than double once again! If you haven’t had a chance to stop in to one of their events, you should really make some time to do so. There is always great fun for kids and adults alike, all while benefitting the great work they do for kids with special needs.
If you want to pledge your support for Leg Up Farm and their many programs, you can make a donation here. We hope to see you at Fall Fest 2016!
