‘Tis the season for Santa Claus to be in full force – gearing up for Christmas and checking his list to see if you have been naughty or nice. But the big man himself took some time out of his busy schedule to join us in spreading some holiday cheer!

This year, Santa joined us at our Shreiner Station Road location in Lancaster on Friday, December 5th from 3-7pm, and again at our Greenbriar Road location in York on Saturday, December 6th from 1-6pm. We kicked things off with Storytime with Santa sessions, which were on a pre-registration basis, but completely free. There were several children who attended at each event and they were all brandishing smiles from ear to ear and filled with glee to see Santa in person as they walked in our “Storytime studio”! (We transformed one or our temperature control storage units into Santa’s Storytime studio, complete with lighted Christmas tree, fake snow and presents.) The children sat in awe, just inches from Santa, while he read them two Christmas stories. After Storytime was over, each child sat on Santa’s lap for a free photo, Then Santa gave them each a goody bag full of treats and toys to enjoy for being such good little boys and girls!

Our second Storytime sessions took place at the end of the evening at each of our two events, and again several children were very happy to see Santa in this warm and welcoming atmosphere! Storytime was definitely a big hit for every child, and their parents as well.

Between our two Storytime sessions at each event, the public was invited to pop in for a Free Photo with Santa. Several children stopped in to visit with Santa and pose for their photo, and they also received a free goody bag. Our cow mascot also made an appearance at each event, which is always a hit with children of all ages. All the parents seemed very delighted to enjoy this event in a much calmer environment when compared to the mall. Not to mention, we offered all of this at absolutely no cost! All we asked was for each family who brought children in for Storytime or Photos to bring in a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Toys or a non-perishable food item. We collected food for the Water Street Rescue Mission in Lancaster and the York County Food Bank in York. Even though we asked for donations to these great charities, no one was turned away.

Every child who had his or her photo taken will receive their photo in digital format in 5×7 and 8×10 sizes at no cost. Every child who attended Storytime with Santa will receive their photo in digital format in 5×7 and 8×10 sizes, and also receive photos of their Storytime session in 4×6 sizes. One lucky winner from each event will be drawn on Friday, December 12th and receive a photo prize pack! The prize pack includes one 8×10, four 5x7s and 16 wallets printed on photo paper, as well as their photos on a CD, which can be picked up at one of our facilities or mailed to them.

Throughout the afternoon and into the evening during both of our events, visitors could enjoy plenty of treats and activities in the rental office. We had everything from coffee, hot cocoa and milk to cookies and candy canes for everyone to enjoy. We also had a “color our mascot” activity for the kids and even some holiday painting pages. The kids really enjoyed these fun activities, and of course the cookies!

All of these fun activities and free events with Santa were for a good cause. I know, you are probably thinking, “What’s a better cause than getting to meet Santa and have your photo taken for free?” Well, our main goal for these events was to collect plenty of toys for our Toys for Tots campaign and plenty of food for our local food drives for the members of our communities who are less fortunate. One thing we whole-heartedly believe in at our company, is giving back to our community and supporting local charities and non-profit organizations. By the end of the evening at both events, our Toys for Tots collection boxes were filled to the top, and we received a good amount of food donations as well. Thank you to everyone who donated to our charity drives!

I think this year was the beginning of a great tradition at Moove In Self Storage! We plan to hold our Free Storytime and Free Photos with Santa every year from now on, in both Lancaster and York. We are hoping to expand to our Baltimore location in the next year or two as well. We also plan to continue our toy and food drives during the holiday season at every location.

I would like to take a moment to thank all of our partners for these events. These generous companies donated money, services or goods which were essential to the success of both events. Please be sure to patronize our business partners:
