Skylands Cycling is a community-based non-profit organization run completely by volunteers and is located in Newton, NJ. They have a simple mission: to make bike riding fun and as accessible as possible. They aim to accomplish this by offering a variety of bike riding opportunities in an environment of friendship and support that encourages men, women and children to enjoy the benefits of biking through all stages of life.
They offer recreational and touring activities including weekly group rides through some of the most beautiful and bike-friendly areas in the northeast. The rides vary from a leisurely pace to a more challenging one on endless miles of well-paved and low traffic roads. They also offer safety and maintenance clinics, charity rides, overnight tours and extended cycling trips.
Skylands Cycling has a racing team who welcomes all enthusiasts. Their team members span all disciplines including road, time trial, track, cyclocross and mountain bike. They are active members in USA Cycling and the New Jersey Bicycling Association. The members provide coaching, camaraderie and racing support. Popular yearly races include the popular Augusta Series Training Criterium in the Spring, Giro del Cielo in the Summer and Cyclocross Series in the Fall.
Why join Skylands Cycling? Here are some great reasons:
- Meet, socialize and most importantly cycle with others with similar interests.
- Bike in regularly organized recreational rides for all skill levels. Having a time and a place to meet other riders will enhance your cycling experience. You will also get to enjoy and explore new areas of northern New Jersey.
- Be part of social activities such as summer picnics, camping trips and an annual holiday and club awards dinner.
- Gain community fellowship. It’s the goal of the Skylands Board to develop ways to give back to the community. This has already begun with their junior cycling program. In addition, many members of the club participate in various charity rides together. You will also learn more about cyclist safety and education.
